As a younger person, I never anticipated that I would grow up to be a nurse, it always felt like an unachievable dream. As I progressed through school and went to college, it became clear it was the only profession I wanted to work in. Using property development to fund my time at university, I set out to qualify in 2005 as a Registered Nurse. Working in Intensive Care, Surgical units and theatres, I was lucky to meet and work with some of the best Nurses, Anaesthetists and Consultants in the NHS. I was raised in an educational environment, always encouraged to learn and ask and question; this encouraged me to immediately desire to progress, moving into teaching and education, primarly focussing on Infection, Prevention and Control (IPC).
Being in a key role in IPC at the height of the Swine Flu Pandemic was a key turning point for me into compliance and governance. Being taught by CQC inspectors how to assess an environment for compliance was my first exposure to consulting. Following this, it became a new desire of mine; I wanted to influence practice, not just work within it and while I have maintained all of my clinical skills, I find my knowledge base and experience in developing, repairing and supporting services to be my finest skill.
When I am not working, I dedicate my time to my family and my pets; my husband and 2 teenage boys and our 5 year old horsefield Tortoise and our 4 year old Patterdale are simply every distraction that I need. I enjoy being outside, camping and walking and love cooking (more the eating part).
QUALIFICATIONS
Leadership; actively leading large teams toward a common goal, demonstrating value in employees and worth in their achievements; building and retaining a workforce to deliver a service. Success demonstrated in setting up 3 private hospitals from start-up inclusive of staffing systems. Currently building 3 further hospitals nationwide.
Human Resource; providing guidance employee and employer support, file management, policies, tribunal case management, audit and specifically how to ensure the HR department is compliant with the Health and Social Care Act; using electronic systems to log, manage and monitor staffing learning and development.
Project Management; build tasks, coordinate teams, service set-up, budget and finance management; assuring end to end service delivery of tasks within time frames expected
Contract Management; company liaison; ensuring the company has the best, most cost effective service or products or tendering for business and services as well as negotiating contract agreements and Service Level Agreements.
Handling complaints; stage 1, 2 and as an adjudicator
Pagination of medical records and analysis for case
Governance; policy formation, development of local standard operating procedures, audit tool provision (creating a meaningful audit), analysis of a company and their governance infrastructure in relation to regulator expectation. Support in board report formation; use of helpful reporting tools.
CQC application of the regulations and standards; mock inspections; completing registration set-up of new premise, coaching for new Registered Managers and Nominated Individuals. Making changes to existing registrations and safely adapting a business with the regulator.
JAG Compliance; set up and coordination of the standards, gathering all evidence and use of the GRS system.
Medical recruitment; coordination of Surgeon and Doctor Practicing Privileges ensuring all correct documentation is obtained and prepared for presentation to the Medical Advisory Committee.
Risk Management; assessing businesses against HSE legislation, producing risk assessments and advising on risk reporting, incident reporting and overall risk analysis.
Service turnaround; Support and completion of a full service review, action plans and GAP analysis for a business to be clinically compliant and assistance and support to implement the action plan
Revalidation surgeon and nurse; assistance for Doctors and Nurses to fulfil their obligations to their professional bodies, this can include assisting overseas staff to obtain work permits, complete IELTS and assure a compliant work file.
